Frequently Asked Questions
General Yoga FAQsWhat is yoga?
Yoga is an ancient system designed to achieve well-being on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It is an accessible practice to almost everyone. There are many different styles of yoga, many of which are entirely different from one another. What is Hatha yoga? Hatha yoga is the most commonly practiced yoga in the West. In a hatha class, we practice physical postures (called asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama) that connect the mind, body and breath. Most classes also include a meditation. What is Gravity Yoga®? Gravity Yoga® is targeted mobility/flexibility training method that helps students with stiff backs, locked up hips, and tight hamstrings. It's a great option for anyone feeling tightness in these areas. What are the benefits of yoga? Yoga has a lengthy and diverse list of benefits. Increased flexibility, increased mobility, increased strength, improved breathing, reduced stress and anxiety, improved focus and increased body awareness to name a few. Some styles are designed to specifically achieve certain benefits. Do I have to be flexible to practice yoga? A resounding No! Poses can be modified to meet you wherever your current flexibility (or lack thereof) is at. Should I practice yoga if I have an injury? If you have an injury, consult your doctor first. It is helpful to advise your teacher of your injury and known limitations. If you have any other questions, contact Lacey. |
Attending a Yoga Class FAQsWhich class is right for me?
Sometimes, whatever class fits your schedule is the right one for you :) They all have many benefits, but you may have a preference for certain style or approach. Check out the Class Descriptions page. Do I sign-up for classes in advance? Or do you take drop-ins? It is recommended that you sign up in advance by registering online (& pay by credit card) or messaging Lacey at 250-614-3965 (& pay by e-transfer). Drop-in space is sometimes available but be sure to confirm before attending. How early should I arrive to a yoga class? Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before class starts. If you've never attended a class at Yoga from the Hart, arrive 15 minutes before class. What should I wear to a yoga class? Wear comfortable pants and a light long-sleeve top, t-shirt or tank top. This practice is done bare foot. What should I bring to a yoga class? Bring a water bottle, a mat, and any props you like (a blanket, strap or blocks). I encourage you to bring your own props, though sanitized props will be available. Can I eat just before a yoga class? Ideally, avoid eating 1-2 hours prior to yoga. If you need to eat just before a class, choose a light, easily digestible snack. Where is your studio located? Yoga from the Hart is located at 8845 Aquarius Road, the same address as Hunniford Gardens. Please see the map at the bottom of our Home page. What is your cancellation policy? You may cancel a class 24 hours or more before it starts without penalty. You can use this as a pass for another class. If you cancel within 24 hours of the class due to illness, you will be offered a make-up class to use within 30 days. Thank you for your understanding. |
